Frequently Asked Questions ...
Dealing with a damaged car can be very stressful, time consuming and often raises many questions. Here are a few questions and answers when it comes to your car and your safety.
What does an Auto Repair Shop do?
An Auto Repair Shop is a service outlet specializing in vehicle body repair work.
What to do in case of an accident.
Most of us don't like to think about being involved in an accident. However, it is wise to be prepared because, unfortunately, most of us will have one in our lifetime. Download Allstar's handy checklist that you can keep in your glove box in the event of an accident.
Do I have a right to choose my auto repair shop?
Yes. Talk to your friends and family and select an auto repair shop that will provide a high quality repair of your vehicle. A good indication of a high quality shop is one bearing the ICBC c.a.r. shop logo. Approved by ICBC, only shop facilities that meet the highest repair industry standards for workmanship and professionalism are awarded c.a.r. shop status.
Should I have my car repaired at the same place it was purchased? Does my dealer know more about fixing my car than other repair facilities?
Your dealer may not be your best choice for collision repair. Many of the highest-quality facilities in the area are not affiliated with dealers. Your dealer generally has no unique edge in terms of technology, techniques, or parts availability when it comes to repairing your vehicle after a collision.
Rather than automatically returning to your dealer for collision repairs, we encourage you to be a careful shopper when selecting a repair facility. Ask your friends, neighbors, and relatives about the experiences they have had with collision repair, and select the shop you think will provide the highest quality result.
To make a claim, just dial ICBC's Dial-a-Claim center. It's open 24 hours a day, every day. Within the Lower Mainland, call 604-540-8222. Outside of the Lower Mainland, 1-800-910-4222.
Can Allstar Collision arrange a courtesy car for me?
Yes - Allstar Collision has a variety of late-model courtesy cars available for you while your vehicle is being repaired. In fact, as an ICBC c.a.r. shop valet facility, we'll also drop off the courtesy car at your home or business, and pick up the damaged vehicle for free!
Who pays for the cost of a crash?
The primary factor in determining the answer to this question is the law of negligence. Other legislation such as the B.C. Motor Vehicle Act also plays a part.. Following the crash, an investigation will indicate that you were wholly at fault, partially at fault, or not at fault. Depending on the findings, your collision coverage and Third Party Liability may compensate you and other individuals involved.
Who do I contact if I'm not happy about my claim?
ICBC's Steps to Fairness allows you to dispute or file a complaint about a decision or action relating to your claim. Customer service telephone numbers are available on ICBC's website at www.icbc.bc.ca.
An 'estimate' is a description of the damaged areas of the vehicle, with a prediction of total cost in order to complete the repairs.
We provide you and your insurance company with an itemized bill for the repairs. Full payment of your deductible is expected when you receive and are satisfied with your car. Allstar will accept direct payment from your insurance company if a commitment is given to Allstar from the insurance company prior to the release of the vehicle. Other methods of accepted payment include Visa, Mastercard, Interac or cash.
Many factors influence when you car repairs will be completed. The repair process involves several departments within our repair facility, and also involves your insurance company, along with both factory and after-market parts suppliers. At Allstar Collision we will make every effort to repair your vehicle as quickly as possible but what we will not do is compromise the quality of the repairs for the sake of time! Once we have completed your vehicle repairs and we have performed our quality check list and road test one of our service advisors will advise you that your car is ready for pickup.
LKQ (Like Kind and Quality) parts, simply put, are used parts. They are auto parts originally manufactured by the builder of your vehicle. The quality and fit will be the same as new parts; they have simply been on another car previously. The use of LKQ parts, when appropriate, can reduce the cost of repairs. We will advise you of the appropriate usage. At Allstar Collision, we inspect used parts for damage and reject any part that won't pass our high quality standards.
What is hazardous waste removal?
Being environmentally conscientious is everyone's responsibility. At Allstar Collision, we dispose of the waste generated through the repair of your vehicle in accordance with federal, provincial, and local regulations.
Where can I find information about the rules of the road?
The Canadian Automobile Association publishes a book called the Digest of Motor Vehicle Laws. You can contact CAA through their website or through BCAA's website. Check out our Industry Links page for this information and more.
